The extent of Palin's connection to AIP has previously been uncertain. Her husband Todd was a member of the party until 2002, but although Palin attended some conventions and sent them a message earlier this year saying, "Keep up the good work," she herself never belonged to the group.
However, Blumenthal told Maddow that when he and co-author David Neiwert, who has been investigating the anti-government militias since the 90's, interviewed people in Palin's home town of Wasilla, they found that "Sarah Palin is far more intimately associated with the extreme right-wing fringe of Alaska than the media has acknowledged or than she is willing to acknowledge."
Blumenthal said that Palin used former AIP chairman Mark Chryson and a local John Birch Society activist known as "Black Helicopter" Steve Stoll "to advance her political career on a local and state level -- and she sought to reward them with plum political appointments."

It's already known that Palin was a subscriber to the John Birch Society newsletter, as confirmed by a photo of the newsletter sitting atop Palin's desk when she as on the Wasilla town council.
What's interesting is that apparently the John Birch connection helped to advance her political career.
No offense, but having coffee with someone on a school committee is a far cry from actively leveraging extreme political organizations to advance one's political career. The media is always hesitant to touch such far-right connections, given its roster of oil industy advertisers, but perhaps there is something here that the American public should know. Frankly, I would guess that most have figured this out for themselves already.

These facts about the Palins are well-established, but very sparsely reported. You may be right about the reluctance to report this stuff being linked in part to advertisers from big oil. Beyond that, however, is the disturbing tendency of the media to portray the far left as dangerous, in spite of the fact that most left-wing movements are non-violent. This compares to the treatment of even the most extreme, violent, and anti-American of right-wing movements by the media as if they were merely a tad too enthusiastic, but not truly dangerous. The defense that the Palins give us about their involvement in the movement to subvert the United States Government (that they supposedly left it a couple years ago, even though Sarah Palin continued to give major addresses to them) is a lame defense, and more disturbingly, it is probably untrue. The strategy that the AIP and allied segregationist militias and secessionist parties decided upon at the same time that Palin took the Republican turn was to have young members join the Republican Party as a way to fool voters into electing them into positions of power wher they could act on their mission to seced from the union, and attempt to seize and control the resources of the Western states like Alalska and Idaho. This is not speculation, this is their stated goal. Palin told them this past year to "keep up their good work" and there is no evidence that either Sarah or Todd have moderated any of their extremist views.

Sarah Palin's political mentor was murdered in the process of illegally buying plastic explosives from a fellow violent right-wing anti-American terrorist. Strong evidence exists that the explosive was meant to be used in a plot to hold America hostage by targeting the Alaska pipeline for oil. What a patriot.

I said it before, I'll say it again... John Sidney McCain III did not adequately vet his choice of Sarah Louise Heath Palin as Repubican Vice Presidential nominee.

I don't think that it's a matter of being far left. The equation seems to be, if you're a willing participant in far right organizations or willing to ignore that major political figures have been involved intimately with them, that's "conservative" or "moderate." If you question such affiliations, you're "far left." I am in no estimable way a "far left" person. Yet to question these things will earn one such a label. We've been fighting this labeling of normal, moderate Americans as "pinkos" or whatever for more than fifty years. The theory goes that if you're not on board with a radically anti-democratic vision for America you're a stooge. It's not healthy for our public discourse to continue to play politics this way.

Very well put JBlossom... your description of the "pinko" garbage is dead-on. I perhaps did not make the point I meant to by referring to "left" groups. What I meant was that a right-wing group seemingly must actually commit a crime of the Oklahoma City Fed. bldg bombing before it is talked about in the media as a terror cell, or put under surveillance, even when there is credible evidence of crime and violence being planned and committed. On the other hand, take an environmental group for instance, and media reports that talk about false information happen, infiltration by the FBI happens to groups including the pacifist Quaker Church!! If you talk about the 4th Amendment, you are a pinko, but if you talk about the 2nd Amendment, you are a patriot? NO, but that is often how things play out. This is admittedly a somewhat different, though related, issue from the excellent point that your post and comments here brings up. Again, great post.... Thanks

Great points, Andrew, in general the news organizations ignore many chilling threats from whatever political wing is in favor at the time. The OK City bombers did not spring out of the grass - they developed over time in a culture that sustained their outlook. To be fair, the same was true of the Weathermen in the 1960s. Nuts are nuts, no matter what they profess, and nuts grow on trees that nurture their growth. It's just a bit unnerving when the nuts start running the show.

MollyMK...
there are a number of great sources, many here on the vine. The McCain campaign is working hard to deny this (by saying she was registered Republican) Duhhh... we KNOW how she is registered. One of the AIP main strategies is to, in their words: "infiltrate the Republican or Democratic Parties, depending on whichever party gives the best chance for immediate access to power..."
Here are several links to some chilling stuff about these folks and, for one thing, their seeking the backing of Iran (the enemy of my enemy is my friend) since Iran hates USA, and AIP hates USA, then Iran might give us money or guns, they thought, or at least maybe they'll let us use their seat in the UN to give an anti-American speech

Palin is a joke, right? I can't even picture her as a governor let alone being the next in line to the presidency and with McCains health problems, it's scarey. I don't even want to think about it but I have to and it actually makes me think Palin is a joke they are playing on us. I doubt she will ever be a viable candidate anywhere for anything after this election. Everything about her is bad that I see, what were they thinking????? dunno, ask McCain.

,,,,,,,,,,DO I HAVE THIS STRAIGHT?
Nope, also - reported as no value. This has nothing to do with the article.
That`s ok. Not sure how to search out all the facts. Would love to get them straight. Maybe an artical on what aren`t lies would be good if we could make sure the facts presented were True. Peace
